Frühere Forschungsgebiete der Arbeitsgruppe Fuhrhop (Prof. Fuhrhop ist im Ruhestand)

Das Hauptthema der Arbeitsgruppe betrifft die Synkinese reaktiver Membransysteme. Das Wort Synkinese wurde in der Gruppe geprägt und bezeichnet die vollkommen reversible Synthese definierter, nicht-kovalenter Molekülkomplexe und Membransysteme. Beispiele sind die isolierbare Quadrupelhelices aus Gluconamiden, die ersten im trockenen Zustand isolierbaren Micellen aus photochemisch aktiven Ruthenium - Komplexen (Abb.1), steife und polymerisierbare Vesikelmembranen aus Porphyrin -  Carotenoid Estern und membranbedeckte Goldkolloide mit enzymartigen, funktionellen Spalten (Abb.2). Auch ein kovalent - polymerer Porphyrin - Viologendraht wurde aus einer nicht-kovalenten Assemblage gewonnen. Dementsprechende Publikationen finden sich in J.Am.Chem.Soc. und Langmuir 1997-99 (siehe Publikationsliste). Außerdem werden stereoselektive Erkennungsprozesse an Membranoberflächen mit Kohlenhydrat Oberflächen untersucht.

Alle Aggregate werden in wässrigen Lösungen hergestellt und sind deshalb einfachen elektrochemischen Messungen bei verschiedenen pH-Werten, der cryo- Elektronen- mikroskopie und Sondenmikroskopie, der NMR Spektroskopie unter Bedingungen der self-assembly und der Komplexbildung mit Metallen, organischen Ionen und Fluoreszenzfarbstoffen zugänglich. Porenbildung und Reaktionen in Poren lassen sich direkt durch die üblichen spektroskopischen Methoden der organischen Chemie untersuchen.

Generelle Ziele dieser Arbeiten sind amphiphile Assemblagen in Wasser, die mittels Sonnenlicht Wasser spalten können oder die enzymähnliche Katalysen und Erkennungsprozesse durchführen.
