The colour editor

All menus contain items for changing colours. Selecting one of these items displays the colour editor. In the upper left of the colour editor are a number of different coloured boxes. You can select one of these colours just by clicking in the corresponding box with the left mouse button. The colour you want to change in the picture changes, too, but this is not a permanent change until you click in the box labelled OK which also shows the current selected colour. If you have set a colour with the background or foreground option in the viewmolrc file, the rightmost coloured box shows this colour and you can apply it to your picture simple by clicking on it. If VIEWMOL is running in colour map mode, this box always shows the same colour as the OK button (since there is only one colour map entry assigned), but you always get your defined colour back by clicking in this box. If you did not define a colour in the viewmolrc file, this box is not available and if VIEWMOL runs in colour map mode no colour editing is possible (since no colour map entry was assigned).

If none of the colours in the boxes satisfies your needs you can set up your own colour by clicking with the left mouse button in one of the red, green or blue bars. The bar will be set to the position of the mouse pointer and the colour changes correspondingly. If you use the middle mouse button all three colour bars are set to the same position, i. e. you get a gray shade. The OK button and the colour in the picture you want to change show the currently selected colour and by clicking onto the OK button you change your colour permanently.

If you run VIEWMOL in colour map mode and have not defined a colour in your viewmolrc file, the three colour bars do not appear, since they cannot be used in this case.
