5. Unix Commands

The qwertz document processing system consists of a suite of four Unix shell scripts:

format

translates qwertz documents into various formats, including LaTeX and various versions of roff. format can also be used to simply check that a document is a correct instance of the qwertz DTD.

qtex

is a front-end to LaTeX and BibTeX which may be used as a filter in Unix pipes. By default, it translates LaTeX documents into PostScript, which can then be piped to lpr for printing. Alternatively, a dvi file can be generated.

qroff

is a front-end to groff, analogous to qtex. By default, it translates groff documents using the ms macro package into a formatted ascii file suitable for electronic messages. It can also be used to generate PostScript, to obtain an alternative layout style to that produced by LaTeX.

extract

extracts source code from qwertz documents. It is useful for "literate programming".

biblio

translates a bibliography written using our biblio document type definition into your choice of BibTeX's bib format or Unix's refer format.

fax

sends a message, in PostScript format, to a telefax machine.
