Elementary reactions, kinetics, transition states, molecular and cluster ions, synchrotron radiation, coincidence techniques, electron and ion spectroscopy, laser spectroscopy, state selective photodissociation


KURZE ZUSAMMENFASSUNG

Our work focusses on the investigation of the energetics, the kinetics and the mechanism of elementary reactions in molecular ions (e.g. CH4+, C2H4+, C2H6+, HBr+, HCl+) and cluster ions (e.g. ArCO+, ArN2+, (CO)2+, (N2)2+). There particular attention is given to the role of rotation in these reactions, i.e. the variation of the dissociation energy Eo and the rate constant k with

i.) the rotational temperature in a thermal experiment, or with

ii.) the total angular momentum J (rotational angular momentum R) in a state selective experiment.

These topics are investigated by various experimental techniques - partially developed in our group - employing synchrotron or laser radiation. The experiments are complemented by theoretical studies describing the reaction kinetics and the energy balance in the reactions based on high level ab initio calculations.
