KURZE ZUSAMMENFASSUNG

Our research programs are directed to electron and photon induced reactions in molecules under different degrees of aggregation, namely, gas phase molecules, clusters and condensed phase molecules. The main interest is focused towards processes where molecular anions are generated, either by attachment of free electrons (of well-defined energy) or by photoinduced electron transfer to the molecular system of interest. The experimental methods and techniques include crossed electron/molecular beam experiments (gas phase molecules, clusters), electron transmission through gases and thin molecular films, photodetachment from molecular anions and substrate mediated photochemistry of adsorbed molecules. In the cluster experiments we study intermolecular relaxation pathways following electron localization, electron transfer processes between the components in binary clusters and ion molecule reactions, e.g., nucleophilic displacement (SN2) reactions. The role of negative ion resonances for the photochemistry of adsorbed molecules is investigated via laser induced electron transfer processes from a substrate to adsorbed molecules.
